We arrive
in Greenfield State Park an hour after leaving Wilton. The train
pauses for fifteen minutes before reversing direction. Although this
train did not allow enough time to visit the park, the line does permit
passengers to arrive on an earlier train and depart later in the day.
The engineer sounds the horn
and retirees trailing oxygen carts scramble to be first aboard the train.
Families with children look about to ensure the younger generation will
not unintentionally be dragged beneath the wheels. Rabid train enthusiasts
adjust their telephoto lenses and stabilizing tripods for one last exposure
suitable for framing. Then we are on our way back to Wilton.
