The depot
is a tiny building constructed next to the track. A sign at the ticket
counter claims the train is sold out, but the crowd waiting to embark seems
insufficient to support this claim. I called the night before to
make reservation and my ticket is waiting at the counter.
Compliment #1: Operating
a railroad is an expensive venture. Most tourist lines barely manage
to cover expenses with pricey tickets. Even so, I may still wince
when paying $40,
$50
or $137 for a ride.
Wilton Scenic's $12 round trip fair is extremely reasonable by comparison.
The line even offers box lunches delivered to your seat for a paltry $7.
