The Douglass Street Stairs connect the lower part of Douglass
Street (below 20th) with the upper part (above Corwin). The stairway
cuts through a wall at 20th and Douglass, turns, and rises to the street
above. A small part of the stairs continue just across the intersection
of Douglass and Corwin.
Several apartment buildings on either side are accessible
only from paths leading away from the stairs. Quaint gardens surround
the paths and stairs.
While the bottom section of the stairs don't strike me
as especially photogenic, it seems many don't agree. Nearly every
time I visit the stairs, someone is having their portrait taken while sitting
on the lower portion of the staircase.
The view from the top of the Douglass Stairs is impressive.
From the top of the stairs, turn right and head down Corwin for more views
and access to one of the best public parks in San Francisco. |
