It's a holiday weekend, and the platform is comfortably
full of people. Rufus disappears, then reappears with giant chocolate
chip muffins and coffee - both of which were made in the same place they
were served.
If the operations of seem a bit crude, it's because The Skunk Train
is a small operation that survives on very little money. Operating
a railroad is expensive - and even more so when you have to maintain tracks
alongside rivers and on mountainsides. This line used to haul freight
for a living and passengers as a community service. When the Northwestern
Pacific Railroad suspended operations a couple years ago, the Skunk Train
lost it's connection to the outside world. Resigned to carrying passengers
instead of freight, the line operators work overtime to make ends meet. |
