Seven thousand feet above sea level, Santa Fe is a high desert town.  New Mexico is suffering one of the longest and most prolonged droughts in history  in 2004.  Trees cannot produce sap without water and sap is essential to defend against bark beetles.  Large sections of forest are brown and brittle as trees succumb to the pests.  Car Attendant shares his opinion of the process and the resulting change in land prices.
