Almost as much fun as the ride on the railroad is the
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
Opened in the very early part of the 20th century, it is the only operating
boardwalk amusement park on the west coat of the United States. It
doesn't pretend to be anything but what it is: a kitschy boardwalk
next to a spectacular beach. Roller coasters clank as the skyride
dangle overhead. On the beach, families with picnic lunches and volley
ball players enjoy the last days of warm weather before winter arrives.
The railroad offers two trains each day in each direction - and if you
take the first train to the Boardwalk and the first train back, you have
just an hour to spend at the Boardwalk. We opted for the later train,
giving us four hours to enjoy the sun, sugar, salt and rides. It's
a great way to spend the afternoon. |
