Precisely because of its proximity to San Francisco and
the Silicon Valley, the Roaring Camp Railroads draw lots of people who
want to be entertained. Sitting and simply taking in the moment is
not why most of these people come.
The saving grace of the Santa Cruz, Big Trees & Pacific is its length:
just over an hour on the train each way tests no ones attention span.
This is railroading light: enjoyable and fresh, yet without the annoying
calories of longer rail journeys.
For Matt, and I suspect many of our fellow passengers, this the first
time he's ever been on a train. And he loves it. We sit in
the open cars and watch the towering redwood trees pass by. |
