There is plenty to look at in Roaring Camp. Outside the
railroad's repair shop lay piles of old cars and locomotives, including
narrow guage Climax and diesel locomotives, decaying passenger coaches
and maintanence vehicles. Cabooses from at least two railroads have
been converted to storage, offices and entertainment spaces. Old
logging equipment is everywhere.
The sun has set as we wander through the bits and pieces of the past.
Then a giant Hummer Limosuine pulls up for a wedding party. We take
this as our exit cue and head back to San Francisco.
If you are in the Bay Area and have one free day, I
highly recommend the Roaring Camp Railroads. Whether you spent the
day in Roaring Camp on the narrow guage line or head to the beach on the
larger train, it's affordable, fun and a day well spent. Of course,
if you have more than one day, I recommend the Skunk
Train.
