RDC Tour : BC Rail: Exterior

The raised section in the middle of the roof houses the radiators and fans.  The engine housing is visible directly below the radiators under the train.

The engines are connected to the trucks via a torque convertor and drive shaft.  A torque converter is a type of fluid coupling which allows the engine to spin at a different speed than the transmission.  This arrangement is similar to the automatic transmission in an automobile.
