this photograph, the future of the E&N and the Malahat were uncertain.
Less than a week remained before Rail America would close the line.
I'm pleased to say VIA Rail
was able to negotiate a stay with Rail America and the Malahat was still
running in 2003. The future of the line is uncertain and will depend
on the ability of the E&N to develop a viable freight business.
For now, you still have the
chance to go to Victoria and ride the RDCs. It is a day well spent
and you'll enjoy the last of a very sturdy breed. |
