The clouds
break and the sky is clear shortly after we leave Nanaimo. Courtenay
is the end of the line and there is barely anyone left on the train when
we arrive. The station is empty. The woman running the snack
truck - which followed us from Nanaimo, throws up her hands in disgust
at the lack of business and sends gravel flying as she leaves the lot.
The Malahat pauses only briefly
in Courtney before the engineer switches ends and heads back to Victoria.
I thought I might find a restaurant near the depot for a quick lunch (having
watched the snack truck leave in a hurry). The only building within
a reasonable walk is a hardware store. I hope the snack truck will
be waiting back in Nanaimo... |
